Since 2025, Arthaayam has brought together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to publish rigorous, double-blind peer-reviewed research rooted in India's intellectual heritage — read on for the journal's story, scope, and the policies that govern every submission.
Arthaayam is a quarterly, double-blind peer-reviewed research journal published by Swadeshi Shodh Sansthan, e-ISSN 3139-3136, founded in 2025. It is published online in English and reports theoretical, empirical, and applied contributions across multi-disciplinary subjects.
The journal serves as a meeting ground for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers who seek to root contemporary research in India's civilisational and intellectual traditions, while engaging rigorously with global academic standards. Every submission passes through a structured, independent review process designed to safeguard originality, methodological soundness, and relevance before it reaches publication.
Arthaayam's vision is to nurture original, innovative, and impactful scholarship rooted in India's intellectual heritage and directed towards global relevance. The journal deliberately embraces a multi-disciplinary approach — economics, public policy, technology, security studies, environmental science, and the humanities are all welcome so long as the work is rigorous and adds a genuinely new perspective. Submissions are invited across eight thematic pillars, though contributions are not strictly limited to these:
Authors are encouraged to situate their arguments within an Indian or Global South context even when addressing globally relevant questions, so that the journal's body of work builds a distinct, coherent intellectual tradition over time.
Vision. To become a leading platform where ideas, insights, and inquiries converge to address contemporary challenges and chart sustainable, inclusive, and ethical pathways of development — scholarship that is intellectually rigorous and civilisationally rooted at once.
Mission. Arthaayam exists to translate academic excellence into societal impact. Concretely, this means:
Every manuscript submitted to Arthaayam is first screened by the editorial desk for scope, formatting, and completeness before being sent for review. Manuscripts that pass this initial screening proceed to a structured double-blind peer review conducted by at least two independent, subject-matter reviewers who have no conflict of interest with the author(s).
Reviewers evaluate submissions on originality, methodological soundness, clarity of argument, and relevance to the journal's scope. Based on reviewer feedback, the editorial board arrives at one of four outcomes: accept, accept with minor revisions, revise and resubmit, or reject. Editorial decisions rest solely on academic merit — never on an author's institutional prestige, nationality, or ability to pay. Authors typically receive an initial decision within 6–8 weeks of submission, and are welcome to correspond with the editorial desk regarding the status of their manuscript at any stage.
Arthaayam follows international standards of publication ethics and malpractice statements, broadly in line with the guidelines issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This governs the responsibilities of authors, reviewers, and editors alike:
Authors retain full copyright over their published work. Upon acceptance, authors grant Arthaayam a non-exclusive licence to publish, distribute, and archive the article under an open access model. This licence permits others to read, download, and share the work with proper attribution to the author(s) and the journal, while authors remain free to reuse their own work — for instance in a thesis, book chapter, or institutional repository — provided the original publication in Arthaayam is acknowledged.
Arthaayam is a fully open access journal. Every article is made freely available online immediately upon publication, with no subscription, paywall, or reader-side registration required. This is a deliberate editorial choice: the journal believes that publicly relevant research on development, security, and policy should be as widely and easily accessible as possible, including to practitioners and policymakers outside conventional academic institutions who may not have journal access otherwise.
Published content is preserved for long-term digital access so that the scholarly record remains intact and citable regardless of future changes to the journal's own infrastructure. Each issue, once published, is permanently retained and organised by volume, issue, and year in the Archive section, and individual article PDFs remain accessible via their original links. Authors and institutions are additionally encouraged to self-archive their accepted manuscripts in institutional or subject repositories, consistent with the journal's open licensing terms.
Arthaayam maintains a zero-tolerance approach to plagiarism and duplicate submission. Every manuscript is screened through similarity-detection software prior to being sent for peer review. As a general benchmark, submissions with an overall similarity index exceeding acceptable thresholds are returned to the author(s) for revision or rejected outright, depending on the nature and extent of the overlap. Self-plagiarism — recycling substantial portions of an author's own previously published work without disclosure — is treated with the same seriousness as plagiarising another author's work. Confirmed cases of plagiarism discovered after publication may result in a formal correction or retraction.
